We are there. Safe and well in Auckland. P picked us up from the airport. So lovely to see her again. Of course it was as no time had passed and we were yapping happily as the friends we are. We travelled to her and her new man’s home. From the front lounge thee is an amazing view of Manuakau harbour, as it is on a hill. You an also see the CBD and the bridge and even part of the estuary. Really nice and in the evening it was even nicer with all the lights. P did apologise as due to the change of travel plans the re-decoration of the guestroom had not taken place yet. It did not surprise us as we arrived 6 weeks prior to our agreed time :-).
P’s daughter will also stay the first night with her BF. Not to see me, but the quake has taken a toll and she wants to see her mother. I am a small bonus. So it will be a full house but it will be alright. We’ve contacted our car rental company and we can pick up a car in town tomorrow. We’ll go there by train (yes they do have one). We’ll also get ourselves a NZ phone number and acclimatise to NZ weather. Our winterskin needs sensitising. Auckland should be easy. It will have changed a little but it was my home for years. It is about 22ºC and sunny. We’ll see how long we manage to stay up tonight. Historically the jet-lag to NZ always was less intense than the other way around. We’ll know tomorrow.
