SO and I just finished the brunch with one of our favourite souvenirs form New Zealand. Blueberry pancakes with maple syrup.
The maple syrup courtesy of one of SO fellow students from last year, that is Canadian. I had told him the stuff is really hard to get her so he surprised me with three small bottles! I know now where to get it but still the thought was very sweet indeed.
With it we had home made vanilla icecream. The recipe used was from this book. It is brillant. Not as heavy thick and sweet as our earlier attempt. This book was written by a patissier and you certainly notice the finer differences, it is cooking for engineers, hece SO’s fondness. The icecream as a result is heavenly. So we are sitting at the table going burb!
This weekend I also had a loaf of bread, which has been the best one yet. It is fluffy, full of flavour and really well risen. I am getting there. I did use a different flour. This time from our local mill. Though the mill itself is not working at present (a tunnel is being drilled under it) the flour is milled the old-fashioned way.
Yes food has been a focus this weekend – yesterday brilliant mussels for dinner. Life is good.
