Following on for our path last year we had a good start. As we are still having holidays and wanted to get out of the house we decided to go to the gemeentemuseum in The Hague. The building in itself is magnificent. It is designed by Berlage one of our most well known and influential architects. The museum has a large interesting collection and is area we got introduced to during our art course in 2011.
I had also noticed on their website that they have important fashion collection and that there was and exhibition titled Fashion loves Art and that it was on until the 8th of January. There would be some yummy fashion as the museum is very good in pulling stuff in. So I thought it a great way to combine two loves and have an afternoon out as well. SO liked the idea as well and off we went.
Our first stop was this exhibition. I loved it. Fabric design but also the YSL 1965 “Mondrian” collection was there and dresses from the Dior 2008 collection that was inspired by Klimt and Givenchy dresses. Here are some pictures on another blog that show what was there to see. Oh I loved it. I had such a big smile on my face.
This was followed by a walk through some of he Museums highlights. Including this painting by Michael Raedecker which we really liked, but is just a tad (more like an ocean) outside of our budget. Next there was an exhibition on Mondrian and de stijl which was wonderful A lot of the ideas behind the stijl resonate. Large open rooms flowing without walls and lots of light are what we love. We love the simplicity and cleanness of lines and loss of “clutter”. But we hare not hard core followers, yet as it resonates we really really liked this exhibition. Some of the top pieces were there and together with the extensive Mondrian collection the museum has it got top marks from us. We then went to see the chambers of wonder, which is interactive and just brought a huge grin to my face and we had a look at the small exhibition on Henk Peeters which is kinda fun as his art is about texture in a lot of cases We loved is akwarel and waterwall Just so cute and different. My kind of art as to me art and a smile go hand in hand.
We drove home with big big smiles on our faces and feeling happy with our afternoon plan. In fact so good that we will be purchasing a yearticket for museums around the country.
