A few weeks back I had a little search on the internet, as you do when you are slightly bored. It was to prevent boredom in the near future and to repeat a little of the farmers market feeling we’d had a few weeks back.
As a result our agenda is stuffed to the brim with possible weekend outings, of which I can guarantee we will not visit half. Simply as with all the travel we are doing at present home is really the bestest place to be. But it is a nice idea to look in the agenda and say, yeah that sounds nice for today and just go.
In that long list of possibilities SO found one that was totally to his liking and turned into a must do. That was the big green egg members day. It is no secret that SO and I love cooking and have a certain instant attraction to gadgets. SO had spotted the green egg about a year ago and has been beaming every time it was mentioned and shown. However as we were not sure about what it could do it had remained a dream for my loved one. The member day was for him a door to making the green dream happen. I nearly managed to drown it again as I had a huge very painful blister under my foot on Saturday, but after draining it I was well enough to carefully walk again.
We set out early afternoon and after some minor disagreements with the satnav we were on our way. It was a lovely day, not too much sun, a bit of a wind but warm and dry. The day was a lot, but nothing close to a farmers market. It was more foodinista’s (like us) all the way to food snobs all the way to some women clearly not knowing where they would end up when they got dressed. Walking in high heels in the meadows is not a good look. The gait turns a bit storkish and is not the elegant look the wearer had intended, was funny to watch. Most people had the right attire 🙂 .
At the day we got to meet people using the egg and better still we got to eat all that lovely stuff. Most of it was slow cooked meat, but also vegetables and fish. All of it nice, well prepared and deep in flavour. Good cooks and restaurants. De librije to name one but we also found a few not far from us that will need closer inspection after this day. Lots of questions could be answered. People had baked bread in them. Pizza (our Nemesis so far), fish, smoke and all kinds of goodies.It is in effect an oven, slowcooker, smoker and grill all in one. One with good temperature control and easy on the coals. We liked the idea of slow roasting a piece of meat. Start in the morning and have it ready 10 hours later. Yeah that is cooking, not fast and furious but slow and mellow.
So there were at the end of a lovely afternoon, well fed and confused on what to do. Or more precisely what size of egg. It took us a huge amount of time to get there but in a few weeks we will have one of them in our garden. A large one. Can’t wait to use the egg, for baking a bread.
