Getting egg trained

Recently I wrote about our latest family addition. Well it has arrived and it has been used……a lot. We really have been using it more than anticipated.

We started off with chicken on a beer can. Which was wonderful. The we tried a no kneading bread (well SO did) which was cooked in our cast iron pot in the egg. It was so nice! Next up was our nemesis the pizza. We’ve never been very lucky with it but after two positives we decided to aim high. The first one was OK. The second one was not. Sure it was edible but it had been stuck to the benchtop and we could not get it onto the slide.

The I remembered the pasta machine. We had mastered the pasta machine for fresh pasta after we had seen the instructions on you tube. Well we did that again and we saw where we had been going wrong. The next friday it was pizza and it was cruisy! It was a blast and we had a blast. Mind you one of the tricks was to use semolina to rill the pizza onto the ovenstone. Given our earlier problems we did a whoosh and saw the pizza nearly exiting the egg on the other side – it just stayed in and it was tasty.

Next up the parents, both his and mine!. We got some quality meat. We made the sauces (tzaziki/raita), baba ganoush and barbecue sauce. For safety we’d bought some garlic sauce to (which was not touched!) To complement the meat and sauces we had a witloof salda with fruit, caprese salad and a Spanish tortilla. It was a case of mission accomplished as the meat was very tender and moist and parents rolling out of the house stuffed to the max. Plus the weather was ever so nice!

Yes the egg and us are becoming firm friends. Today it was sate and tomorrow we’re firing it up again!

      Enjoying the egg was our biggest concern as we did not use your BBQ much and the egg is a bit of an investment. However I think we made a good choice.
      Most of he recipes we use for this one as sooo simple. Try them, they are tasty
