Some bits and bobs

Last week I wrote about the service provided, but also that we spent the weekend with my parents. Part of that weekend was also a short walk with them on Sunday before we drove home and pancakes. It is not that we could not walk longer but the dog is getting a bit old and can’t walk that far.  However there was something really special that happened. We saw some Wild boar, with little piglets! Never ever saw those animals before. A wonderful experience! This was the middle of the day – usually it needs to be dawn or dusk before they come forward there, but this was awesome.

Now as we are well aware that these are wild animals and are known to be fiercely protective of their little ones we kept a very safe distance. Still with a good camera and a good objective it is possible to pull them forward. The SO had a nice time playing with Photoshop and this is the result.

Apart from that we just crashed or most of the time. It was our last week at work and of course things happen again. On Friday I was simply exhausted and SO took good care fo me. One of the things how he did that is by making dinner.

He used our green egg for a new experiment. Mussels! Did nothing to them Just cleaned them and then in a large tray and into the egg for 15 minutes. On opening of the egg we had a roasting tin full of these wonderful things. We ate them with just bread and home  made garlic sauce (another of SOs wonderful trials) and I felt so wonderful after all that.

The other few days we’ve been very good at sleeping in and today we celebrate SOs birthday. The latter was not quite planned (we are not birthday celebration people) but between nice weather, wanting to show BIL the egg etc we decided a BBQ on his birthday would be fine. So that is where we are now 🙂 Getting ready for the family but wanting to show you these pictures first

    Sounds like a lovely weekend!
You were so lucky seeing the boar with their little ones – I love the picture. And well done for finding yet another great recipe for The Egg.

I have seen wild boar in the wild in Belgium, and also aardvarks with little Pumba piglets in Africa; so cute! If you visit me this autumn we could go to the local stately home’s estate and see the deer. The rutting stags are magnificent with their huge antlers and posturing against rivals.

  3. I’m charmed by your outing and by the baby boars! Thank you for the great photos.
