For 6 days I was gone, 6 days away from home and pretty much gone from all but a very small piece of the internet (just my work email) as I was away on business. This time was a little different as SO too was travelling for business, but to the other side of Europe. It is highly unusual for us to have to travel in the same week, but this time we hit the jackpot. It also gave us a little headache. Who was going to tak our trusted and much loved rolling max cabin size suitcase? As I was going for more days I got it 🙂

Nothing scary of course, but an intense international meeting schedule in Berlin meant that I was busy with talking, talking and trying to get people to see our point. In the evenings these meetings are continued in a different way. In the evening you talk the small talk and end up seeing different points of view, learning different ways and dare I say it have some very good laughs. And really as we are all in hotels near the meeting place a lot of it already starts over breakfast.

I love these meetings as much as I don’t like them. They are great for meeting and interacting on a different level and in a different way. They give me new ideas, new perspectives and allow me to make new friends. At the same time they take so much energy because it is people running them, human interaction and carefull moving in various forms  and levels of English. And switching between that, Dutch, German and even some French. I find that that drains my energy, while at the smae time loving it.

There is very little time to do the so needed recharging. Really the only time I had to myself was pretty much the night. Plus the long long wait on that incredible airport called Tegel. The Saturday meeting was finished earlier than anticipated and I tried to get an earlier flight but alas not possible. So I waited for some 5 hours to get on the plane in an airport that was due to be shut down years ago.

It was tiring though. I arrived home late on Saturday and simply collapsed when I could. It will really be a one day weekend and Monday back to work.  Thank heavens it is also the end of daylight savings, which means an extra hour of sleep. Sure need it

Sounds exhausting! I used to feel much the same about international business meetings – a real love/hate relationship. A mixture of excitement and nervousness. Having to concentrate all the time you are around the other attendees as the meeting is always running, evening at breakfast and dinner!
