Over the last five weeks our lives have been a bit of a rush of things beyond our control. Just under five weeks ago SOs mother (MIL) was taken to hospital. In itself we were not that concerned intitially She suffers from some health issues and has been there fairly regularly over the last few years, usually out within 24-48 hours and the last year had been hospital free.
Well it very quickly became clear that this time it was different. Symptoms were different and test results indicated something more serious. Over the next few weeks it became clear that she needed open heart surgery. After a lot of tests, waiting and stress she had her surgery last week. A day ahead of original schedule, she ended up with a triple bypass.
Now nearly a week later she is on the mend, she is still very much in recovery stage, but every day we can see massive progress. Today we visited and her chatter for an hour was as per her usual self yet she still is tired quickly.
SO has been amazing through it all. He has been a total pillar of strength for his parents and with his brother still on a holiday during the first week and a half (we did not get the full picture until about the day of their return) he visited daily, while still working. He took extra time off around the time of the operation and has been ferrying his father back and forth the the hospital in the next town over.
Needless to say that over this time our stress levels were up and spare time completely down. Our schedules revolved around visiting times in hospital and trying to fit in as much as positive stress relief (read excersise) in as possible. As no schedule seemed to fit and the picture changed nearly every day we were even apprehensive as to whether we could go on a holiday. It seems we can if all keeps going the way it does at present.
As said MIL is on the right track now and on Thursday we are planning to leave on our much needed break.
